On this clip from this week’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Bob Costas made a great point about our founding fathers and today’s out of control gun culture.

The crowd cheered in agreement as he used an example from the NFL and connected it to the intentions of our founding fathers when they wrote the second amendment, ending it by tying them to weapons used by our military to fight extremist groups such as ISIS.

At the risk of spoiling it for you, he’s absolutely right. Our founding fathers certainly didn’t envision that we would have such a gun problem in the year 2015.

While the NRA and the gun lobby like to pretend that any semblance of gun safety reforms are an attack on the Second Amendment, the rest of us need to speak up and highlight the fact that the right to bear arms doesn’t include the right to own cop-killing bullets and weapons suited for war — not inner cities.
