In this video, the Republican Mayor of Indianapolis, Greg Ballard, announces an executive order protecting the rights of gay Americans in his city and bluntly condemns the discriminatory law passed by his governor, fellow Republican Mike Pence.
“For over forty years, Indianapolis has built success by being an open, a welcoming, an inclusive city. We exemplify Hoosier hospitality. That’s who we are.”
He then called for the Governor and the General Assembly to add sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes to the state law, as his city council plans to do this evening. He assures attendees at the upcoming NCAA tournament that all will be welcome, and defiantly sets his city apart from the bigotry that is isolating the rest of his state.”Indianapolis will NOT be defined by this. Indianapolis welcomes EVERYBODY.”
