In this video, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) angrily called out Wall Street regulators like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice, demanding to know when the last time they took a bank to trial was- and receives muttered excuses in return.
“When was the last time you took a major bank to trial?” Warren asks of several prominent members of financial regulatory bodies. Nobody can give her a straight answer except Tom Curry, Comptroller of Currency, who bashfully admits “We have not had to do that as a practical matter to achieve our supervisory roles”. She then scolds them for not taking “big financial institutions to trial ever — even when financial institutions engage in blatantly criminal activity.”
The agencies that are supposed to be supervising the Wall Street banks and corporations to ensure they don’t plunge our nation into another recession with their greedy gambles has been complacent and lazy for far too long. Senator Warren is on to them, and it’s about time somebody was.
