In this moving video, Elizabeth Warren speaks about her brothers in the military and honors our fighting men and women here and abroad, while calling on Congress to make sure that when America’s defenders do return home, they receive the quality care that they need and deserve.

“When I was growing up, Memorial Day was a big holiday in my family, three of my brothers served in the military, my oldest brother was career military, and I grew up always watching for the mail…When you’re lucky enough to have all your family members come home safe, Memorial Day has a very special meaning. You understand what others have lost, and you honor even more, the sacrifice and the service of those who fight for our country and those who love them.

Our veterans deserve the very best, and that means ensuring that America’s veterans receive high-quality services and cares when they come back home. Today is an opportunity to say, “Thank you. Our country is grateful.”

She’s absolutely right. Our fighting men and women risk too much and pay too big a price for us to not do so. It’s one of the most sacred covenants in American culture, and we must defend their care as strongly as they defend our nation.
