In this clip, Senator Lindesy Graham (R-SC) denounces the GOP front-runner Donald Trump for his disturbingly stark and offensive comments about Mexican-American immigrants in America, saying that he is going to kill his party: “Well, I think he said something that has brought people who hare frustrated about immigration system to life, but he also said it in a way that’s going to kill my party.”
Graham, who Trump helped get elected in the first place, does offer some praise for Trump for his charitable donations and his “economic genius” (that’s what four bankruptcies will buy you in America, apparently), but takes clear aim at his former supporter because of his incendiary comments and his relentless efforts to alienate everybody in America who is not white and very suspicious of others: “When most illegal immigrants were rapists and drug dealers and there may be some among them who were good, that is reinforcing a narrative between the Republican party and the Hispanic community that is going to destroy our ability win a presidential election. And the part needs to be clear on how we handle this.”
You heard it from the horse’s mouth. The Republican Party clearly never stopped to think about the consequences that the past eight years of unfettered racism and paranoia spewing from the FOX News echo chamber would have on the electorate. Trump is just giving voice to what they’ve been told for the past eight years. He’s a monster of their own creation, and this little drama is going to be a very interesting one to watch.
