Police Group Posts Shockingly Racist Memorial For Michael Brown

The shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, sparked a firestorm and accelerated Black Lives Matter into overdrive, as it rapidly became the civil rights movement of our generation. In response, supporters of police officers have begun similarly politicized- but somehow have found themselves with a great number of closet racists in their ranks, using the conflict as an excuse to convey their discriminatory sentiments.

Which leads us to atrocious expressions like this photovandalism of Michael Brown’s memorial from Ferguson that was posted on the “Police Officers” Facebook group:

Needless to say, outcry was virulent and instantaneous. The post was taken down relatively quickly, but the administrator was unrepentant in his condemnation of Brown: “Mike Brown chose his path, one that has lead [sic] this country into complete divisiveness. He’s not a martyr, he was a thug, who robbed a clerk then made the adult choice to fight a cop, of which he intended to murder…At the end of the day, the person truly responsible for the killing of Mike Brown is Mike Brown himself.”

It just goes to show just how radicalized the issue of overly harsh policing has become in our nation. People are arguing that alleged minor thievery should be punishable by death. As police brutality and summary execution incidents are exposed again and again, day after day, it’s very clear that there are some deep rooted problems in the culture of our police officers- especially in their conduct towards African-Americans. The frenzied and aggressive reaction from their supporters only, exemplified by the horrifically offensive plaque featured above, only proves the point.
