Trump Rushes To Defend Bigots He Inspired To Brutally Beat Homeless Hispanic: They're Just 'Passionate'

Donald Trump’s racist rants, despicable on their own, are beginning to have very alarming consequences. Two brothers from South Boston have been arrested for viciously assaulting a homeless Hispanic man, telling police they were inspired by Donald Trump’s xenophobic message. They first urinated on the man before breaking his nose and beating him badly.

The Boston Globe reports that “Scott and Steve Leader, who have extensive criminal records, pleaded not guilty to multiple assault charges with a dangerous weapon, indecent exposure, and making threats. The men stayed behind a half-open door during their court hearing to avoid cameras; their lawyers declined to comment on the charges against them.”

The men were unashamed of their actions, and had been arrested previously for hate crimes. “Donald Trump was right, all these illegals need to be deported” was one of the men’s explanations. When told of the crime, Trump rushed to defend his supporters: “I will say that people who are following me are very passionate. They love this country and they want this country to be great again. They are passionate.”

Donald Trump brings out the ugliest side of the American people. Words and statements don’t exist in a vacuum, and unfortunately such divisive and hateful language is finding a home in a voter base radicalized by relentless FOX News propaganda. Right-wing xenophobia is a potent weapon in the political game, but it has terrible consequences. This may be the first attack linked to Trump’s message, but it is unlikely to be the last if he keeps up like this. It is an absolute disgrace very unfitting a nation referred to as the “leader of the free world.”
