According to future 2016 presidential washout Marco Rubio, Planned Parenthood not only sells baby parts, but the health organization also incentivizes women to have abortions with promises of profits.
While no women is given any part of the reimbursement Planned Parenthood receives when she chooses to donate fetal tissue to humanitarian causes, facts (as usual) are meaningless to Rubio, who feels that women “look forward to” getting abortions.
“There is a strong bipartisan consensus in America that taxpayer money should not be used to fund abortions,” Rubio said during an interview with KCCI News8, apparently not realizing that not a single penny of taxpayer money is used to fund abortions (except in limited cases through Medicaid). “And in the case of Planned Parenthood, number one, it is very unclear how all that money is intermingled, and number two, they have now been exposed for being involved in the trafficking of fetal human tissue for profit.”
Rubio, of course, fell back on the fraudulent, heavily-edited baby organ harvesting Planned Parenthood videos that have caused conservatives to scream that Planned Parenthood should be defunded, even though abortions are only about 3 percent of the services the organization provides. According to the videos, Planned Parenthood cuts little babies up and sells of their parts for profit. In reality, Planned Parenthood is reimbursed $30 to $100 for expenses related to handling and transportation of tissue, which conservatives would know if they watched the full videos. The women involved receive NO “compensation.”
Rubio says that he has no problem with utilizing the tissue of miscarried fetuses or when there’s “some other natural end of a pregnancy” because it’s “no different from organ donation. But, he explains, this is different from saying “We’re going to take the fetal tissue of aborted fetuses.”
“Because now what you’ve done is you’ve created an industry. You’ve created an incentive for people to be pushed into abortions so that those tissues can be harvested and sold for a profit,” he lied. Rubio, continuing to lie, claimed that women who visit Planned Parenthood “are provided with very few options,” and in “many places” are not told about adoption services.
“In essence, you come in and it’s already predetermined. This is what this place does,” he said, ignoring that abortions comprise a tiny percentage of total Planned Parenthood services. “It provides abortions, and we are going to channel you in that direction.” In reality, Planned Parenthood provides a lot of information about adoption, even suggesting adoption as an alternative to abortion on its web site — in a section dedicated solely to adoption.
But, once again, facts are scary, and conservatives scare easily (Thanks, science!).
Rubio said that women are incentivized by the prospect of selling baby parts for a personal profit, before backing off the claim after apparently realizing that he had managed to out-crazy even some of the more hardline conservative presidential candidates:
“I just think you’ve created an industry now — a situation where very much, you’ve created an incentive for people not just to look forward to having more abortions, but being able to sell that fetal tissue — these centers — for purposes of making a profit off it, as you’ve seen in some of these Planned Parenthood affiliates.”
Yes, he backed off his claim a bit mid-sentence, but let’s face it: Rubio revealed that he genuinely believes women are profiting off of one of the most terrible, most difficult decisions of their lifetimes.
