In this clip, Tea Party darling and failed vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin somehow finds her way into an interview with CNN, in which she sings the praises of Donald Trump and has a message for the nation: ““When you’re here, let’s speak American.”
Palin is reportedly angling for a position in a possible Trump presidency, and she does share an iconoclastic message and haunting ignorance with the upstart tycoon. Defending Trump from accusations of racism, she digs him an even bigger hole: “You know, I think we can send a message and say, you wanna be in America? You better be here legally, or you’re out of here. Let’s speak American. I mean let’s speak English. That’s, a, uh, um, kind of a unifying aspect of a nation is the language that is understood by all. But, you know, I took Spanish in high school, and I took French in high school. I shouldn’t have taken them both because I got ’em all mixed up by the time I was graduating.”
What a ringing endorsement. There anti-immigration talk in this country is reaching exceedingly inappropriate levels, and the last thing anybody wants to see is any more Sarah Palin’s particularly puzzling persuasion of politics. We should be celebrating our diversity and learning as many languages as we can.
