In an inspiring display of heroism, 30-year-old Army veteran and Umpqua Community College student Chris Mint fought back during the shooting at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College, attacking the shooter in an attempt to save himself and his classmates.
Her was shot seven times while rushing the shooter. As he lay bleeding on the floor, witnesses say that he repeated over and over “It’s my son’s birthday, it’s my son’s birthday.” His son Tyrik turned six years old on Thursday.
Despite his serious injuries, Mintz was rushed to the hospital and is now in stable condition. According to his cousin,“He’s fine, but he’s going to have to learn to walk again.”
